All the parties involved, including the advokat, have finally come together in agreement concerning the Digital Libraries Initiative. This is an agreement between the right holders for orphan works, their advokat, and representatives, libraries, and archives. The agreement was reached and then signed in front of Commissioner Viviane Reding. The agreement, aptly titled the Memorandum of Understanding on orphan works will assist cultural institutions and allow them to digitise books, films and music who have unknown authors, so that these works can be made public online for the entire world. The advokat believes that the memorandum is the first step in bringing the rich heritage of Europe in both literary and audiovisual works online, because it specifically deals with the issues and complications of orphan works. Orphan works are media of many types, including books, films, photographs, and songs, that can not be verified concerning the author or right holder. Because the rights to orphan works can not be verified and cleared, orphan works cannot be legally digitised or made available online to the public.

The advokat for the son of Branislav Kostic can be proud, because the high court invalidated his father’s will which left eight million pounds to the Conservative Party. In a rare case that received a great deal of publicity, there were grounds for the will to be considered not valid due to mental defect of Mr. Kostic when the wills were drawn up and signed. Zoran Kostic contested the Conservative Party as the beneficiery of the bulk of his fathers estate, because his father suffered from a mental condition called paranoia, and he had delusions that his estate was needed because the prime minister at the time, Margaret Thatcher, was supposed to fight monsters and evil creatures. Due to this defect, the advokat for the son successfully argued that the will was not valid because Branislav Kostic was not of sound mind and did not fully understand what he was signing. Zoran Kostic did not inherit simply because he was the son of the deceased, but because the judge used a previous will, drawn up before the mental illness started, in which he left his entire estate to his son.

Advokat Mark Manley, from Brabners Chaffe Streets, has gotten his client, Dr, Tom McMaster, an award for ten thousand pounds for libel. The suit was filed against Dr. McMaster’s employer, the University of Salford. The problems all began when Dr. McMaster attended a conference a few years ago in the Republic of Ireland. Rather than use public transportation at a higher cost to travel to the conference, Dr. McMaster asked for and received permission to travel to the conference by boat with friends of his, the okay being given by his research director. When the conference was over, Dr. McMaster turned in a claim for expenses in the amount of one hundred and eighty pounds. The claim was turned down by the finance director, Ray Corner, so Dr. McMaster sent an e-mail trying to confirm that his expenses would be reimbursed. In response, Mr. Corner sent an e-mail in return, with a copy sent to four other colleagues, stating that the claim was an attempt at fraud and was rejected as it should be. The e-mail also stated “Those who submitted and certified it should be ashamed of themselves.”

Roman Abramovich, a native of Russia, has caused a big scandal by filing for divorce from his wife. The reason for the scandal is that he is in love with a twenty something socialite almost half his age, named Daria Zhukova. Rumors about the two have been flying around since early in 2006, and the rumors were so numerous that Daria left the country and went back to Russia for a while, putting her studies at the London College of Naturopathic Medicine on hold. This was in part because Irina Abramovich, wife of Roman for the last fifteen years, reportedly started discussing the matter with famous divorce advokat Raymond Tooth. At the time publicists for both Mr. and Mrs. Abramovich declared that the couple were not having any problems and were not divorcing. Two years later, Roman Abramovich has filed for divorce and released a public statement detailing his divorce plans from his wife Irina. Amid all this, he is still being photographed out and about with Daria, and helped her open an art gallery in their native country of Russia.

Bath University finds itself defending claims by an advokat and law firms who claim the school breached the privacy of individuals and disregarded the rights of consumers and the general public. This story started innocently enough, with Bath University allowing a research project, called Cityware. In the first stages of this project, the researchers had scanners installed at specific places around the city, and these scanners were intended to pick up and monitor Bluetooth devices which emit radio signals. Bluetooth allows communication between devices for a short distance. Ten thousand people unknowingly had their data collected and stored in a central research database with the use of these scanners. The advokat claims that the privacy of the citizens of the city was breached, and that the university acted covertly and with a blatant disregard for the rights of consumers and citizens. The director of the group Privacy International, Simon Davies, says that individuals can be identified by their Bluetooth signals.
